Safety Thursdays
> March
A Load at Rest is a Load at Risk.
Protect your freight and yourself through proper planning by following these simple steps:
| • |
Be aware of high-theft areas
|
| • |
Drive at least 150 miles or more from a high-risk site before stopping.
|
| • |
Seal the load and document the seal number on the bill of lading. |
| • |
Use King Pin and trailer locks to protect your equipment and an Air Cuff lock to protect your truck.
|
When You Stop to Fuel or Rest:
| • |
Be aware of you surroundings. Pay close attention to both vehicles and people at truck stops and rest areas. You and your truck are most vulnerable within the first 30 minutes you walk away from your equipment.
|
| • |
Park under lights whenever possible; thieves usually avoid well-lit areas.
|
| • |
Always remove your keys from all equipment |
| • |
If possible, back your trailer against a fence, door or wall.
|
Consider installing an anti-theft system on your vehicle, but don't let it provide a false sense of security. Nothing takes the place of good judgment, common sense and constant vigilance.
