Landstar Logistics Names Vice President of Carrier Procurement and Development

September 18, 2002 Jacksonville, FL - Landstar System, Inc., (NASDAQ: LSTR) a safety-first transportation capacity provider, announced today that Vincent Ruppel has been named Landstar Logistics Vice President, Carrier Procurement/Development. In his new position, Ruppel will be responsible for developing and enhancing relationships with railroads, and drayage and over-the-road carriers. He is also charged with developing programs that enable Landstar to leverage buying power with carriers and the initiation of new contract logistics projects.

"We're excited to have Vincent back on our team," said Landstar Logistics President Jim Hertwig. "His hands-on experience in the various aspects of our business will serve both Landstar and our customers well."

A graduate of Jersey City State College, Ruppel began his career in the transportation industry as a truck operator 25 years ago. He worked his way up through the ranks, serving in various executive positions for two of the nation's largest carriers and expediters. In 1998, he joined Landstar as Director of Business Development at Landstar Logistics then left to work at a Landstar Logistics agency in Cape Coral, Florida.

Ruppel is relocating to Jacksonville, Florida.
