BCO Makes Wishes Come True

It’s something Landstar BCO Rob Finch has dedicated the last 14 years of his life to, but when he started raising money to support the 27th Annual Make-A-Wish Mother’s Day Convoy in Philadelphia this year, Finch never dreamed how much of a difference he’d make.

Finch ramped up his involvement with the event a few years back, and prior to the 2016 convoy had raised more than $15,000 for Make-A-Wish, but this year his fundraising exceeded his expectations. Finch alone raised more than $8,200, making him one of the top fundraisers among the drivers involved in the May 2016 event.

“More than $3,000 of that money came from donations made by dozens of Landstar agents. I just sent some emails out and the agents really responded. This is the most money I’ve raised since I became involved with the convoy,” Finch explained.

Finch, who drove the 15th truck lined up in the convoy, says he was honored to be one of the top 30 drivers to lead the convoy. Aside from being a top money maker, Finch had another special role in the event, chauffeuring 16-year-old “Makenzie” to make her wish come true.

“Landstar made that happen for me. I was able to get approval early. The ride really meant a lot to Makenzie and it was a great experience for me,” said Finch.

Finch’s wife, Terry, is a volunteer coordinator for the Make-A-Wish event – something they both look forward to each year.

“Next year I want to be in the top ten fundraisers. It makes a big difference for this organization and the kids,” said Finch.

He and six other Landstar BCOs took part in the 2016 convoy, which broke records, raising a grand total of $420,000, which is $100,000 more than the previous best year ever. Plus, the convoy will now be in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest truck convoy in the world with 595 trucks!
