M.U.S.T. Customer of the Year: Google LLC

A quick online search will call up the winner of the Landstar 2018 M.U.S.T. Customer Award – Google LLC.

In 2018, 61 Landstar customers opened their doors to members of the Landstar safety team to discuss safety practices and improvements. The Mutual Understanding of Safety Together, or M.U.S.T., onsite customer visits
offer shippers a unique and valuable experience.

“What our customers get with the M.U.S.T. program is a customized safety program to help ensure their freight is delivered damage-free and on-time with unmatched support from Landstar,” says Momentum Transportation USA Inc. President and CEO Brian Putzke.

Giving customers and their freight extra attention and special care is an everyday practice at Putzke’s independent Landstar agency based in Jacksonville, Florida.

“With each project we are high-level logistics project managers,” says Momentum Transportation Vice President of Operations Doug Granger. “With the M.U.S.T. program, we plan ahead to avoid potential risks for each customer. The safety and security measures we take, coupled with support from Landstar, result in on-time, claim-free deliveries.”

The agency’s collaboration and proactive safety approach earned Momentum Transportation customer, Google LLC, the Overall M.U.S.T. Customer of the Year Award following M.U.S.T. customer visits to seven Google locations in 2018.

“The visits to Google involved extensive facility tours, followed by a discussion and analysis of safety and securement practices at each location,” says Landstar Transportation Logistics Vice President of Safety and Compliance Mike Cobb. “Google and Landstar share the same commitment to safety.”

During the M.U.S.T. visits with Google, Landstar executives met with the agency team and customer to collaborate and formulate the best logistics solutions to move approximately 250 truckloads of freight each week.

As a result of the multiple visits in 2018, Landstar and Google:

  • Reviewed and refined securement practices
  • Developed loading and unloading systems
  • Improved parking lot layouts for truck turning radius
  • Enhanced gate and dock entries

"M.U.S.T. is a unique benefit that goes beyond a typical safety consultation,” says Cobb. “No other company in the industry does this. M.U.S.T. allows us to support customers as we address their safety concerns.”

At the end of each year, Landstar field safety managers nominate customers to receive the M.U.S.T. Customer
of the Year Award. Nominations outline each customer’s safety visits, accident and cargo claim rates, adoption of the Landstar safety plan and the post M.U.S.T. visit successes during a 12-month period. Landstar safety executives then carefully evaluate the nominations to determine the award winners.
