Landstar named independent Landstar Agent Bill O’Neill as its 2023 Rookie of the Year during Landstar’s annual Agent Convention held April 5, 2024.

Landstar defines a rookie as an independent agent who is new to the Landstar network, but not necessarily new to the transportation industry.

O’Neill has three decades of experience in the transportation industry. He opened the doors of his Landstar agency, Complete and Accurate Transportation Services, in Thornton, Colorado, in the fall of 2022. Prior to that, he spent years as both director and vice president of operations with other trucking companies.

According to O’Neill, experiencing a little competition with Landstar made him take notice of how independent Landstar agents operated with freedom in addition to the support and resources of an industry leader. Soon, he signed on to become an independent business owner too. His experience and long-term customer relationships helped him generate more than $1 million in Landstar revenue, with no accidents and no cargo claims during his first year in operation.

“O’Neill’s freight agency has demonstrated outstanding growth and revenue performance, earning him the 2023 Rookie of the Year award,” said Landstar President and CEO Frank Lonegro. “His business sense, entrepreneurial spirit, experience and professionalism are the hallmarks of a successful new Landstar freight agent.”

Recipients of the Rookie of the Year award must be part of the Landstar network for less than two years, demonstrate outstanding revenue performance, and encompass excellence in customer service. Nominees for the 2023 award opened an independent Landstar agency between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023.
