The transportation industry, especially professional drivers, is uniquely positioned to help combat human trafficking. At Landstar, safety, security, and service are more than business principles; they guide how we protect the communities in which we operate. Awareness is a critical part of that responsibility.

Independent Landstar business capacity owners (BCOs) spend countless hours on the road each day. This presence makes understanding the indicators of human trafficking, and knowing how to respond, essential. Landstar’s onboarding process includes human trafficking awareness training, equipping BCOs with the knowledge to help protect vulnerable individuals.

Landstar is a proud member of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), which leads an annual five-day human trafficking awareness, outreach, and prevention initiative across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The campaign brings together commercial motor vehicle drivers, motor carriers, law enforcement officers, inspectors, and the public to: 

• Increase awareness of human trafficking
• Share indicators drivers are most likely to encounter
• Strengthen reporting across jurisdictions
• Encourage the transportation community to take action 

The 2026 initiative took place January 12–16 in the United States and will continue February 23–27 in Canada and March 16–20 in Mexico. Landstar is a member of Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT), a nonprofit organization that educates and equips transportation professionals to recognize and safely report the signs of human trafficking. To date, 5,015 business capacity owners (BCOs) have been TAT-certified through Landstar.

• Do not intervene directly
• Contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888
• If someone is in immediate danger, call 911
