Jay Hosty Honored as TA Citizen Driver: A Legacy of Service On and Off the Road

Landstar Roadstar® and Million Mile Safe Driver Jay Hosty was honored August 30 when TravelCenters of America (TA) dedicated its Slidell, Louisiana, service center in Hosty’s name. The dedication ceremony came on the heels of his designation as a TA Citizen Driver in March, celebrating his 42-year career as a professional driver and 3.5 million accident-free miles.

But Hosty’s impact goes far beyond trucking, he’s recognized for exemplifying safety, leadership and community service. He’s served on OOIDA’s Board of Directors for 16 years, helped establish its Safe Driver Award, and volunteered globally — including digging wells in Mexico. After losing everything due to Hurricane Katrina, he and his wife helped rebuild homes through the Eight Days of Hope charity. Together, they’ve fostered more than 200 children and adopted eight, earning Foster Parents of the Year honors in 2022 from their community.

Named Overdrive’s 2024 Trucker of the Year, Hosty also supports charitable organizations like the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund and Truckers Final Mile. His dedication to others makes him not just a standout driver, but a true citizen of the road.
