March 29, 2001 Jacksonville, FL (LSTR:NASDAQ) - Landstar System, Inc., a safety-first transportation and information services company, announced today that Vice President of e-Commerce Patrick Wise has been named one of Computerworld's Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2001. For more than three years, Wise has worked to ensure Landstar's internal and external applications are web-enabled. He was instrumental in the company's first-of-its-kind business-to-business application of wireless Internet phone service in North America. The wireless system enables Landstar's 7,300 business capacity owners to use cellphones and other Internet-ready wireless devices to choose available freight from the company's website. Computerworld's awards program recognizes this type of service by spotlighting technology and business leaders from a broad range of companies.

"Patrick's experience has been valuable to us in developing unique applications for our small business relationships," said Landstar Chairman, President and CEO Jeff Crowe. "It's technology applications like this that give Landstar the edge in our rapidly changing industry."

According to publication, those featured on this year's Premier 100 IT Leaders list demonstrate "a set of common characteristics that top technology and business executives have identified as the essential attributes of an IT Leader." Computerworld Editor in Chief Maryfran Johnson said "Our search for IT leaders was exhaustive, garnering hundreds of nominees from distinguished companies around the world." Johnson says those on the list have "displayed exceptional technology leadership in their organizations, fostered ideas and creative work environments, envisioned innovative approaches to business problems and effectively managed IT strategies."

Wise joined Landstar in 1997 as Vice President of Information Services, after 25 years in the financial services sector. He served several terms on the board of directors of Illinois' second largest ATM network and was instrumental in the conversion of one of Chicago's largest check processing systems to electronic presentment.

The Premier 100 IT Leaders list for 2001 will be published in a special issue of Computerworld.
