May 2, 2001 Jacksonville, FL (LSTR:NASDAQ) - Landstar System, Inc., a safety-first transportation and information services company, announced today the appointment of Larry Thomas, Chief Information Officer replacing Bob Luminati, who resigned to pursue other interests. In his new position, Thomas will be responsible for all technology-based solutions for the company.
Thomas joined Landstar in 1994 as the Director of Management Information Systems at Landstar Ligon, Inc. Prior to his promotion, he served as Vice President of Research and Development at Landstar System, Inc. Thomas began his career in research and advanced information systems in 1983. His extensive background in evolving technologies will help him drive Landstar's information and communications services further into the forefront of the industry.

Prior to launching his career at Landstar, Thomas held several positions at IBM. He earned his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Evansville. He lives in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida with his wife, Lynn, and two sons.
