Diversity and Inclusion

At our core, Landstar is about providing opportunity to people regardless of background. We do not tolerate racism or discriminatory behavior and strongly believe that diversity and inclusion make us stronger as a company.

Landstar’s network includes a tremendously diverse group of backgrounds and viewpoints. We strive to maintain an empowering platform for employees, agents, BCOs and other third party capacity providers that is fair and inclusive of these different backgrounds and viewpoints.

Our business model is built on helping diverse individual entrepreneurs – regardless of race, gender or background – become successful in our network. Our focus as a company is on safely moving freight and supporting the entrepreneurs in our network to be successful. We support diversity and inclusion within our business and our network.

Working Against Human Trafficking

Landstar is committed to working with industry groups and supply chain partners in the fight against human trafficking. We recognize that truckers are one of the first lines of defense to identify, report on and help prevent human trafficking. Orientation for all new BCOs at Landstar includes information on human trafficking. We are a corporate sponsor of Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) and have worked with the organization to educate and certify over 2,500 of our BCOs and employees on the proper actions when encountering potential trafficked victims. Representatives of TAT also are regularly invited to BCO safety meetings and other Landstar events.

Landstar has signed the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking (TLAHT) pledge that calls on leaders in the transportation industry to commit to employee education, raising public awareness and measuring the collective impact to end human trafficking. In 2022 Landstar pledged to continue its efforts to combat human trafficking by supporting the Florida Attorney General's 100% Club initiative

Landstar also uses our own publications to bring attention to the fight against human trafficking. These are examples of articles that have appeared in Landstar’s “Road to Success®” magazine, which has a print run of 100,000 copies and is distributed to all of our independent agents and BCOs as well as to over 600 truck stops throughout the USA.

BCO All-Star Celebration & Appreciation Days

The annual Landstar BCO All-Star Celebration honors an accomplished group of independent owner-operators for their commitment to safety and service excellence. Eligible Landstar owner-operators are inducted into the newest class of Million Mile Safe Drivers, for reaching one, two, three, even four million miles without a preventable accident. Some are recognized as Roadstar® honorees, Landstar’s highest honor for truck owner-operators.

Landstar also holds appreciation events across the country exclusively for our network of independent owner-operators. These events include educational business sessions, expert guest speakers, safety education, panel discussions, food and prizes.

To reward our drivers and in show of appreciation, every year Landstar gives away two new trucks. One goes to an eligible Million Mile Safe Driver or Roadstar honoree during the Landstar All-Star Truck Giveaway. The other is given to one lucky owner-operator as part of the Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway.

Agent Convention

The Landstar Agent Convention is a celebration designed to congratulate Landstar’s independent agents on their individual outstanding revenue performance. In addition to revenue awards, other honors presented at the annual event include the Mutual Understanding of Safety Together (M.U.S.T) Customer of the Year, Landstar Safety Officer (LSO) of the Year, and Rookie of the Year awards. The multi-day event offers agents networking opportunities, valuable business insights sessions and fun activities in between.

Star of Quality Award

Each month, deserving independent business capacity owners (BCOs) and independent agents earn Star of Quality awards, recognizing efforts “above and beyond,” and individual dedication to service and their communities. Anyone can nominate an agent or BCO for the award, which ranges from Bronze to Platinum levels.

An Award Winning Culture

Landstar’s corporate culture supports gender diversity and career advancement opportunities for women - and is why we were recognized by the Women in Trucking Association (WIT) as one of the top companies for women to work for in transportation.

In addition, independent owner-operators continuously nominate Landstar as one of the best fleets to drive for, an industry award presented by the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) and CarriersEdge.

BCO Benevolence Fund

Since the Landstar BCO Benevolence Fund was created in 2005, it has provided financial assistance to hundreds of BCOs in hardship situations. The fund was established to distribute financial assistance to qualified BCOs in emergency situations who do not have the assets to meet their existing financial obligations and/or immediate basic living expenses for their families. Landstar BCOs and truck operators employed by Landstar BCOs, and their immediate family members, are eligible to receive assistance from the fund. Contributions to the Benevolence Fund are collected throughout the year at Landstar’s various events. To find out if you qualify, to apply or to assist with Landstar’s Benevolence Fund email BCOfund@landstar.com or call 800-872-9541.

Landstar Scholarship Program

The Landstar Scholarship Fund was established in 1995 to recognize and reward outstanding undergraduate academic achievement and civic involvement of children of Landstar employees, independent business capacity owners (BCOs) leased to Landstar and independent sales agents. Landstar Scholarship Fund recipients are well-rounded individuals who succeed both in and out of the classroom and whose qualities exemplify Landstar’s commitment to excellence.
