January 18, 2002 Jacksonville, Florida - Landstar System, Inc., a safety-first transportation and information services company, has earned a top international award for its company magazine, The Road to Success. The publication earned a Silver award in the 15th Annual International MERCURY 2001 Awards competition in the External Corporate Magazines category. The MERCURY Awards is the largest competition in the world honoring excellence in public relations and corporate communications.
The magazines were judged on how effectively material was communicated to designated audiences, on the use of imaginative and original solutions, and on the overall expression of the message.
The MERCURY Awards Blue Ribbon panel of judges represents the most illustrious creative professionals in the industry - from distinguished public relations, marketing and advertising agencies, to corporate communications departments and public affairs offices across the United States, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Hong Kong, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
"To be selected by some of the world's best communications specialists as the top work in public relations is a real honor," said MerComm President Reni Witt. "Especially considering the hundreds of other fine agencies, corporations and non-profit organizations eligible for the awards."
This year there were nearly 1,000 entries from corporations, public relations agencies, designers, associations, government agencies, writers and photographers in 13 countries. Landstar was among 10 companies competing in its category. ExxonMobil Corporation took the Gold, Landstar the Silver, and Pohly & Partners for Continental Airlines earned the Bronze. Honors went to Compass Group North America.
The annual award is named for the Roman god Mercury who, as messenger of Olympus, symbolizes the spirit of the communicated message. The annual MERCURY Awards competition was established in 1987 by MerComm, Inc., an independent organization based in Ossining, New York.
